MEDEA (Memory of Andalusia. Politics, Society and Environment in the 19th and 20th centuries) is a Consolidated Research Group of the Andalusian Plan for Research, Development and Innovation (PAIDI). It is currently made up of more than twenty researchers belonging to the Universities of Granada and Pablo de Olavide of Seville.

Its origin dates back to January 1995, when it was established under the name of "Agrarian transformations, social changes and political articulation in Eastern Andalusia (1750-2000)", and whose objective was to offer a renewed historiographical vision. of Andalusia's past. Outstanding then were his contributions on the Andalusian 19th century, as well as his valuable contributions on the agrarian question and land ownership, the evolution of agriculture or the conformation of the urban and agrarian bourgeoisie, without forgetting, obviously, the day laborer movement, rural conflict and internal fractures produced by the capitalist agrarian growth model within the peasantry.

As of July 2021, the research group acquired its current name, MEDEA, the result of the necessary rethinking and critical and theoretical reflection on the new paths traveled recently by contemporary Spanish historiography, and knowledge of the evolution followed by other international historiographies. The lines of research of the MEDEA Group, in line with what has been indicated, have expanded and diversified in the last two decades, which has given rise to a large and varied historiographic production, with a clear vocation oriented towards internationalization and the transfer of knowledge. developed knowledge.

The researchers of the MEDEA Group have incorporated new analytical perspectives that seek to delve into the multiple demographics, economic, labor, social, political, cultural, environmental and gender dimensions that have shaped the historical reality of Andalusia and Spain throughout the contemporary age.
